What are munchies and why do they happen?

We’re hoping you didn’t accidentally stumble on this article. There’s a high probability you already know what this is. You obviously didn’t search “election results” and found “healthy munchies snacks”. That would be weird right? However, accidents are a real phenomenon and we hope only the good kinds happen to you.

You might know munchies as something else prior. The stoner’s munchies is a slang word that describes a craving for food as a result of cannabis consumption. No cannabis, no munchies; that would just be hunger or an insatiable appetite. Cannabis influences the way we perceive and taste food, thereby making stoners want more. If it tastes and smells good, it’s going to be hard to control the munchies once you start snacking. You will likely end up with a massive food baby and not feeling so great come morning.

What are healthy munchies snacks?

If we went all science on eating healthy, this article would become a science journal. We have factored in foods with high salt content, high fat content and additives so you know you’re only eating clean, delicious snacks. It is expected that the munchies may cause your craving to go way overboard. You wouldn’t want to munch your way to bad health. Cannabis and fitness aren’t parallel lines. A healthy stoner is a wealthy stoner.

Considering you’re propelled to chew and fill your belly with anything you can lay hands on, low-labor healthy snacks are the best. Check out the best healthy snacks for munchies, for your delight.

Fresh Fruit (Cucumber, Watermelon, Apple, Mango, Avocado and Berries)

Fresh fruits are extremely rich in nutrients and are winners for all seasons. They have served as appetizers, dessert, snacks and even full meals. Rest assured, they are great companions for the munchies. Watermelon and Cucumber are the President and Vice President of the American Association of Healthy Munchies Snacks (AAHMS). Fine, that was made up, but it doesn’t change the facts though. Due to their high water content, they’re delicious cures for dry mouth after flying Mexican airlines (especially if you crave spicy foods and need to cool off). Watermelon, feta cheese and mint was a match made in heaven. You’ll be sure to have a Ratatoille moment.

Other fruits like apple, berries and mangoes are also amazing alternatives. Eating mangoes before getting baked will intensify your high due to Myrcene content. Also, frozen grapes make for amazing popsicles so wash them and stick them in the freezer a few hours before you blaze.

Eating sliced and frozen fruits for the munchies is the epiphany of munchies snacking. They’re also numerous recipes for preparing fruits that will have you salivating. Remember to keep your experimentation healthy. If you’re not too high, you can also try some amazing fruit smoothies.

Popcorn

We’re talking about actual corn kernels that popped without fancy additives, especially butter. If you do want to spice it up you can try adding a dash of chili powder, rosemary, thyme or olive oil to give it a kick. Almost anything is better for you than butter. Popcorn can disappear in your mouth as soon as you fill it. It’s also really entertaining to have them rolling from one corner of your mouth to the other. That makes it really easy to vacuum a sack of popcorn like it’s nothing.  As long as you keep them healthy by avoiding fatty and sugary additives, you can graze on!

Protein Bars and Shakes

All hail protein, the body’s little brick for building and construction. You’ll be doing yourself more good than harm by snacking on these protein-rich preparations. Body builders already got ahead on this and stoners are tailing. The higher the fiber content and the lower the carbohydrate/fat content, the better. An army of super toned stoners anyone?

Fibrous Veggies (Broccoli, Celery, Spinach) with Hummus

Vegetables are bitter, so what? Your munchies doesn’t give a flip-flap about bitterness. In fact, you might even enjoy vegetables when the munchies come crawling. If that’s your only chance to appreciate the bitter-sweet experience of healthy vegetables, score high! You might want to skip dark veggies as they’re high in Oxalate. That can be bad news for your health. The internet has also found fun recipes for vegetables. Try the healthy ones along with hummus or guacamole.

Carrots with Hummus or Guacamole

What’s up Doc.? If carrots weren’t healthy, we may eat them just because bugs bunny made it look really cool (just kidding). These orange beauties are crunchy, tasty and high nutritious. You hold one of those things in your hand and it feels like a nutrient bar. The health benefits of carrots cannot be overstated. The most interesting thing about carrots is that they make eating healthy look cool. Nobody sees someone eating a carrot and calls them a loser. Think of Chris Hemsworth eating carrots shirtless (ladies!).
