What is a Firecracker Edible?
Firecracker edibles are a weed infused snack, often made with three ingredients. To make firecracker edibles, you’ll need crackers, usually graham crackers, peanut butter and of course weed.
Even though we’ll get into the steps later on, the main thing is to decarb the weed and then add it to the peanut butter on the cracker.
The science behind their effectiveness is that it uses a high-fat substance, i.e., peanut butter. According to Winston Peki, editor of Herbonaut, “cannabinoids are fat-soluble. They get absorbed much better when taken with fats.”
But how long do firecracker edible last? Let’s find out.
How Long Do They Last?
Firecrackers edibles in theory last as long as any other fat-based edibles like chocolates, brownies. Generally, edibles last between 6-8 hours. However, firecracker edibles are said to be more potent and last longer.
For example, a YouTube comment under a firecracker edibles video said, “I didn’t check how much to put in so I ended up using 4 grams in 3 crackers and….Its 2 days later and idk where I am….these definitely hit way too hard.”
Another commenter said, “When you do this you will easily get twice as high and it kicks in after 1.5-2.5 hours and it can easily last the whole day so be aware.”
It’s not always fun and games for people who use firecracker edibles. People report feeling panicked among other unpleasant feelings.
One stoner said, “An hour in I was what I call “panick attack high”. Heart racing, chills, and forgetting how to breath. Proceed with caution and hold on tight. This is not for the casual THC enthusiast.”
Unfortunately, we don’t have a specific time frame for how long these edibles last. How long an edible lasts doesn’t just depend on weed, it also has to do with your biological make up and other factors. However, chances are these edibles can last more than the 6-8 hours, especially if you used potent weed.
So if firecracker edibles are supposed to be like any other edible, based on its make up, why are people getting so high? As Peki told us, “As far as I know, there are no specific compounds inside firecrackers that potentiate THC.”
Here are some reasons why we think people experience longer and stronger highs with firecracker edibles.
Dosage
One of the reasons why firecracker edibles are perceived to last so long is the potency of the THC used.
The most common form of edibles found in the dispensaries are gummies, followed by chocolate bars. Therefore, this is what most people are used to when it comes to edibles.
When it comes to dosage, these are equally portioned out. For instance, one package of gummies is typically 100mg or 200mg. Each pack would be 10 pieces of gummies that are 10mg or 20mg, respectively. Therefore, you know exactly how much you’re getting.
However, since firecrackers are homemade you may end up with some firecrackers that are slightly (or massively) more potent than others within a single batch.
A big part of the problem with dosage for firecrackers also likely has to do with the fact that the THC content of ground herb ranges between 10-30%.
In effect, a single gram of cannabis could have 100-300 mg of THC, so be aware of how potent the herb you’re using is (percentage of THC) so you don’t overdo it.
Experience With Other Edibles
If you’ve never had an edible before or only had gummies, firecracker edibles may knock your socks off.
Peki told us that one reason people are having strong effects from firecracker edibles has to do with their experience. He said, “Edibles can get you really high, especially if you’ve never tried them before. The quality of the high is different than smoking/vaping, if the dose is high enough, it’s a more overwhelming experience.”
For people who mainly used gummies in the past, it’s no wonder firecracker edibles are so potent to them. First, gummies tend to be more fast-acting than fat-based edibles like brownies, chocolates, cookies, and firecrackers. Second, gummies, mints, and other non-fat-based edibles aren’t as potent as fat-based edibles. Due to this and the fact that these edibles take longer to hit, the effect is a more powerful high, even for someone who is used to taking gummy edibles. That’s because the fat (and if chocolate is used specifically) affects the potency.
In addition to that, even someone who normally takes gummies but has never had a fat soluble edible like a firecracker might end up consuming more because they don’t feel the effects…until they do and it is overwhelming.
How to Make a Firecracker Edible
If you’re excited to make a firecracker edible, we have a short video and recipe to share. However, we have to caution you on taking it easy if it’s your first time having an edible. Even if it’s not your first time, you may want to pay special attention to dosage and remember not to over consume them, even if the effects are delayed.
Without further ado, let’s get into the recipe.
For Vice’s recipe, you’ll need:
- Graham crackers
- Hazelnut spread (a nut butter can be a substitute)
- Marijuana
- Tinfoil
- Oven (toaster ovens also work)
- Butter knife
Here are the steps to follow, according to Vice.
- Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Spread out 0.5 grams of weed on tinfoil.
- Place weed in the oven for 10 minutes. The color will change from green to brown when it’s toasted.
- While the weed is heating up, take the hazelnut spread and coat one side of the graham crackers with it.
- After 10 minutes have elapsed remove the weed.
- Raise the temperature of the oven to 300 degrees fahrenheit.
- While the oven is heating up, sprinkle the weed over the crackers.
- Then, use a butter knife to mix the hazelnut spread with the weed.
- Place two coated graham crackers together to make a sandwich.
- Wrap the crackers in tin foil, completely covering them.
- Place the graham crackers in the oven for 15 minutes.
- Enjoy.
Conclusion
So, how long do firecracker edibles last? A long time. There are several reasons why many stoners report that firecracker edibles are more potent and longer lasting than other edibles. It’s not that they’re particularly special, it’s that people may be using more weed than they need. In addition to that, the weed may be more potent than in store bought edibles. In addition, people may be inexperienced with the kind of high fat based edible such as firecrackers. Either way, be careful with your dosage and potency and you’ll be fine.
