What is ecstasy?

Officially called MDMA, ecstasy is a mood elevating drug that releases serotonin which makes its users feel warmth, euphoria and empathy – in other words it gets users touchy-feely. The drug takes 30-60 minutes before onset and the peak wears off around 5-6 hours later. It’s hugely popular at festivals and raves. You’ll often see people giving each other prolonged hugs, massages and dancing for hours without tiring. However, users must be careful as the drug physiologically increases body temperature so it’s important to drink water frequently, avoid alcohol and sun exposure.
