How to Open Your Third Eye

The Third Eye, sometimes referred to as the “mind’s eye,” the “inner eye,” as well as the “ajna chakra” is an invisible eye thought to be located in the center of one’s forehead. In Indian spirituality, the third eye is the pathway to enlightenment. It opens up a person’s consciousness and allows them to access higher knowledge and wisdom. In this article, we’ll help you learn how to open your third eye with patience and perhaps even some weed.

Opening Your Third Eye

Opening one’s third eye has become a popular topic among practitioners of spirituality. Many are trying to find quicker ways of achieving this feat. After all, the allure of the forbidden fruit of wisdom is quite strong and can lead one down a rather interesting path.

But quite unlike other ideologies, spiritualists do not consider the wisdom beyond the veil to be forbidden. On the contrary, the opening of one’s third eye is considered an integral part of their spiritual journey and growth.

What Happens When You Open Your Third Eye?

Before learning the techniques to open one’s third eye, it is important to first understand what this actually means.

The simplest way to describe the experience is that it allows you to feel a deep sense of clarity. You become more in touch with your thoughts and emotions and learn to trust your own intuition and instincts.

The presence of an open third eye indicates you have found balance and harmony within yourself and can now tap into your natural spiritual gifts.

Signs Your Third Eye Is Opening

Common third eye opening symptoms include religious or spiritual visions (including the ability to see into the past or future), clairvoyance (the ability to see auras, ghosts or spirits, etc.), as well as out-of-body experiences or “astral projection.”

Understandably, most of these can be quite scary when experienced for the first time. It certainly helps to go through the experience in the presence of a spiritual master, but not everyone has that luxury.

So how does one go about opening their third eye on their own terms?

How to Open Your Third Eye Using Techniques

There are a few tried and tested methods to opening your third eye that have been passed down through the ages from spiritual master to student.

Meditation

The first and most widely known method for third eye opening is meditation. The simple act of calming one’s mind allows one to then channel and focus its energy on a different task – accessing higher wisdom that is often drowned out by daily chatter.

Just 15-20 minutes a day is thought to be enough. However, some practitioners find that over time their meditative state turns into a euphoric trance that can last for hours. This is precisely the method used by indigenous South American shamans. They induce a trance-like state using a psychedelic brew called Ayahuasca to guide you on a path to spiritual awakening.

The Ayahuasca is an extremely potent brew and it is only recommended that you do it in the presence of a shaman. But for a milder and more accessible way to open your third eye, you can try cannabis. Herb can help you relax and achieve the peace of mind needed.

The third eye itself is often associated with the Hindu god of destruction or rebirth, meditation, yoga, and dance Lord Shiva. This deity is also frequently linked to weed for a variety of reasons. He is thought to have been a frequent user himself.

The festival of Holi includes the consumption of “bhang” or “nectar of the gods,” a cannabis-infused drink Lord Shiva is thought to have consumed to help him shift his focus inward and harness his divine powers.

Another festival, “Mahashivratri,” is also celebrated with weed smoked out of clay pipes or “chillums”. This is a way they achieve a trance-like state and detach oneself from worldly desires.

In this culture, weed is thought to be a gateway that helps you get on the path of spiritual awakening. Cannabis itself does not open your third eye, but it is believed to be a quick way to start the process.

Reiki

Healing practices are also thought to help with spiritual awakenings. For instance, Reiki – an ancient hands-on Japanese healing technique – offers an attunement that is thought to be very effective in opening the third eye.

Crystals and Precious Gems

Another popular method involves the use of crystals and precious gemstones. In particular, purple stones like amethyst and indigo ones like sodalite are thought to be uniquely beneficial for opening one’s third eye owing to their ability to still the mind, encourage clarity and intuition, calm anxiety, and instill a sense of trust in one’s self.

Essential Oils

Another method for opening your third eye includes applying essential oils such as the calming lavender to your third eye. Alternatively and more safely, you can put a few drops into a diffuser so it fills your space.

Spending Time in Nature

Lastly, going outdoors and absorbing the goodness of nature. Whether this be allowing the energy of the sun or moon to wash over you, grounding yourself by walking barefoot in the grass, or hugging an old and wise tree – nature is also thought to help with third eye opening.

Third Eye Ornaments: Tattoos, Bindis, and Beyond

There is a common assumption that the third eye’s location – the center of the forehead – must be protected to prevent blocking one’s path to enlightenment. A head injury, after all, could potentially hamper your spiritual growth.

It is nonetheless quite common to decorate one’s third eye. South Asians, for instance, use a red paste to apply a “bindi” to mark the third eye and encourage its opening. Younger practitioners opt for jewel-like ornaments instead of the traditional paste.

In other parts of the world, people have taken to inking a tattoo to represent the third eye, sometimes directly over the forehead and at other times anywhere else on the body.

The design varies wildly too, with some people infusing ancient Egyptian spirituality into it with the use of the Eye of Ra, the sun god. Others opt for an enclosing triangle, a representation of balance and higher wisdom.

Whichever design you choose, a third eye tattoo can be personalized to represent your unique spiritual journey.

Closing an Open Third Eye: Is it Possible?

The rejection of spiritual gifts might not be the recommended course of action once your spiritual awakening has begun. But sometimes, the third eye opens in a manner, not of your choosing.

There are ways you can control what happens when your third eye is opening. The most common methods include the use of protective methods like crystals, incense, and meditation to keep your space clear of unwanted clutter and chatter.

That’s right – the same tools that can open your third eye can also help you control, and thus close it.

Live Your Best Life

Another important step is to make sure you are living your best life. As odd as that may sound, the simple truth is that if you are putting yourself on the right path, you won’t need any assistance from beyond the veil. Live the life you want to live. Be good and kind to all you encounter. Use your gifts to help yourself and the world around you. No one, angel or demon, is going to mess with that!
