chocolate edibles

Food and weed go together so well. Yes, edibles are great but we’re talking about eating food when or before you get high. Did you know there was evidence that certain foods can boost your high? For some foods, the evidence is anecdotal, and with others, there’s more scientific evidence, it’s Let’s look at 6 foods that boost your high and why they do.

6 Foods that get you Higher

Mango

Mangoes are a great tropical fruit to include in your diet. It’s packed with vitamin A and other great nutrients. It may also bring your high to new heights.

Yes, mango is one of those foods that make you higher.

The reason eating mango makes you get higher is because of myrcene. Myrcene is a terpene that’s also found in weed. The idea is that the extra myrcene from the mango will extend your high.

However, it’s worth noting that this is all anecdotal evidence. Some people report feeling higher but others didn’t have the same experience.

If you want to test it out for yourself, have a mango or two, about an hour before your weed session.

Tea

If you love green tea or black tea, then you may be pleased to know that it may enhance your high. There is no real scientific evidence of this for humans, just a 2014 study done on animals. The study infers that a small amount of caffeine could boost your high. However, the study may also indicate that high levels of caffeine could make you want to use more weed.

On the other hand, according to this study, low doses of caffeine and THC may impair your memory. The impairment was greater than with THC alone.

If you want to use caffeine and weed together, Healthline suggests:

  • Using a little caffeine and THC
  • Giving your body 30 minutes to feel the effects before trying more.
  • Monitor how much you’re using

Beer

Beer is said to enhance the high you get from weed. Most blogs claim that it’s because it has myrcene. Myrcene, which is a terpene (also found in mangoes) is said to extend highs and intensify them.

However, according to Beer and Brewing, there isn’t a lot of myrcene in beer. Their article said, “Myrcene….. is very volatile…which means that prolonged boiling causes virtually all of the myrcene to escape through the kettle stack, and very little remaining in the beer.”

That doesn’t mean that beer doesn’t enhance a high. Alcohol is notorious for enhancing a high and so the alcohol content in the beer could cause that.

A small study indicated that participants who a little alcohol before weed, had higher levels of THC in their blood. However, another study didn’t come to that conclusion.

According to Healthline, “Using weed before drinking alcohol may minimize the effects of alcohol. This means you might be tipsier than you feel, increasing your risk for becoming overly intoxicated.”

Healthline suggests not mixing both but if you do, err on the side of caution.

Marijuana and Greenouts

Sometimes when you mix weed and alcohol it intensifies the high and you may have a green out. A green out is basically a bad reaction to the mixture. According to Healthline, symptoms include:

  • rapid heart rate
  • nausea and vomiting
  • anxiety

Healthline suggests having a lemon to decrease your high and sitting down. If you suspect this is alcohol poisoning, seek emergency care.

Chocolate

Chocolate is definitely a popular treat because it’s just so good. If you think chocolate can’t get any better then you’re wrong. Chocolate may be able to enhance your high.

According to a study, there are three compounds in chocolate and cocoa powder that mimic cannabinoids. These compounds achieve this by either activating the receptors or increasing the anandamide levels.

In case you’re wondering what anandamide is, it’s a lipid that binds to cannabinoid receptors. It’s supposed to mimic the psychoactive compounds of marijuana.

Therefore, the idea is that chocolate with weed would result in a stronger high. The best chocolate to use with weed is dark chocolate.

Nuts

Nuts are a healthy addition to your diet, if you’re not allergic of course. They aren’t just good for your well-being but can even boost your high.

According to Elite Daily, “Omega 3 fatty acids found in this snack actually bind with the cannabinoids in marijuana to make your high hit you much faster. It also makes it last longer.”

There are a number of ways you can include nuts in your weed sessions. You can mix your nuts with your weed in the form of an edible. If you’re feeling for a real sweet treat you can try brownies or cannabutter with nuts.

However, if you don’t feel like having anything sweet you can just snack on the nuts while you use weed.

Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are considered feel-good foods because they are supposed to put you in a better mood. They’re rich in B vitamins, vitamin C, and vitamin E. These three vitamins may affect your mood. Vitamin E and B, according to Elite Daily, are used in serotonin production.

The idea is that sweet potato will boost your mood and therefore your high.

Conclusion

There are a number of foods that are said to boost your high. However, there isn’t a lot of scientific evidence for most of them. Most of the evidence is anecdotal. In some cases, like with alcohol, mixing it with weed can be dangerous and should be approached with caution. Finally, everyone is different so the food that boosts your friend’s high may not boost yours.
