10 Best Movies Like Fight Club that will Blow your Mind

The Game (1997)

If you thought Fight Club was Fincher’s one-hit-wonder, you’re wrong. And possibly, this movie might even be trippier. The plot revolves around Nicholas Van Orton (Michael Douglas), an extremely successful banker who receives an unusual birthday gift from his brother Conrad (Sean Penn). The gift is a chance to participate in a personalized, real-life game. However, as he begins playing, the game takes a dangerous turn, and Nicholas begins fearing for his life. This movie is full of twists and turns and will keep you guessing until the very last scene.

Shutter Island (2010)

In my opinion, it’s best to go into this movie knowing as little as possible. However, if you must know, the plot of this film follows two US marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo). They are sent to an asylum on a mysterious island to investigate the disappearance of one of their most dangerous patients. However, as he digs deeper into the investigation, Teddy discovers some truths about the asylum that will change life as he knows it. I promise that the ending will stay with you for a long time, making this one of the best movies like Fight Club.

The Truman Show (1998)

Ever wondered whether your life was scripted and you lived in a simulation? Well, that’s exactly the plot of this mind-bending movie. Truman is an unsuspecting insurance salesman who has no idea that his entire life has been a TV show and the people nearest to him are paid actors. However, the facade doesn’t last forever, and when he figures out something is wrong, he wants out. However, leaving is not as easy as he thought it would be. You might want to hit your recycler bong before you watch because there’s a good chance this movie might leave you with an existential crisis.

The Prestige (2006)

This movie shows Christopher Nolan at his absolute directorial best. The plot revolves around two magicians and feels like a magic trick itself. Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) and Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) are two magician friends turned rivals due to an unfortunate incident. Their rivalry makes them go to extreme ends and endure a lot of pain to prove themselves as the better magician. The movie’s end begs the question – was it all worth it? The brilliant direction and star-studded cast make this one of the best movies like Fight Club on this list.

Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Fun fact: Shawshank Redemption has ranked #1 on IMDb’s top 250 movies list for the longest time, and rightfully so!

Though not an intense thriller like some movies on this list, this is a murder-mystery film that will have you questioning the protagonist’s innocence for a large part of the movie. A successful banker, Andy Dufresne, is arrested for the murder of his wife and her lover. He is sentenced to life at Shawshank, where his sophisticated personality sticks out like a sore thumb. This, in turn, lands him in all sorts of trouble with the prison gangs and guards. Did he actually murder his wife, or is he the only innocent prisoner at Shawshank? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Gone Girl (2014)

Nick (Ben Affleck) and Amy (Rosamund Pike) have a seemingly perfect marriage and appear to be very much in love. However, when Amy goes missing one day, Nick becomes the prime suspect. As the detectives start investigating their marriage, things between the couple aren’t as perfect as they seem. This satirical thriller has one of the best twist endings in recent years. Definitely, it deserves a spot on your watchlist if you’re looking for movies like Fight Club.

The Departed (2006)

If you like cat-and-mouse chase thrillers, The Departed is as good as they come. The plot follows an undercover spy (Leonardo DiCaprio) working for the mafia and a criminal (Matt Damon) working undercover for the police. Both the spies are on a mission to uncover the other before they get caught. This intense thriller will keep you on the edge of the set until the very last second and is best enjoyed when watched with friends and a packed pipe

The Sixth Sense (1999)

This film is definitely M. Night Shyamalan’s finest work. It has, in my opinion, one of the best twist endings of all time! This is why it’s such a good fit for movies like Fight Club. Malcolm Crowe is a child psychologist who starts treating a young boy claiming to have the ability to see the dead. While he treats the child, he also deals with problems in his personal life and marriage.

Enemy (2013)

This is an extremely trippy movie that is better enjoyed after taking a dab. The plot follows Adam (Jake Gyllenhaal), a college professor who is unhappy with everything in his life. One day, while watching a movie, he spots his doppelganger and becomes obsessed with him. The obsession leads him to find out where the actor lives. He then starts impersonating him and leading a double life, which naturally leads to many complications.

The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)

This is perhaps the scariest and creepiest movie on this list, and it’s not even a horror film! Matt Damon plays Tom Ripley, a skilled mimicry artist who cons people into believing he’s a wealthy heir to a fortune. This lie leads him to Venice, where he befriends a very rich Dickie (Jude Law). Tom becomes obsessed with Dickie’s life, friends and riches and will go to any length to become him.
